The SMU Mustangs have had one crazy rollercoaster ride the last 35 years. This school has the dubious distinction of being the only collegiate football program to receive the death penalty. The school continues to feel the after effects of their program, as the team struggles to stay relevant in the new American Athletic Conference.

South Florida Bulls

The USF Bulls are one of those football programs that seemingly burst onto the national scene overnight. They have consistenly held their own against much larger programs and are contenders almost every year in their conference. After stints in Conference USA and the Big East, the South Florida Bulls accepted an invitation to the new American Athletic Conference.

Tulane Green Wave

The Tulane Green Wave are known more for their academics than athletics. They've been called the "Harvard Of The Southwest" in many circles and are considered to be on the same level, if not higher, than Rice, Tulsa and SMU.

Connecticut Huskies

It seems that the Connecticut Huskies continue to get the short end of the stick. They really haven't been a Division I program for very long, but in that short amount of time, the teams have managed to put together solid winning seasons, while competing in the old Big East. They still cling to the possibility of one day participating in the Atlantic Coastal Conference (ACC), but have yet to receive an invitation. Currently, the football team is competing in the new American Athletic Conference, but I just don't see them remaining there for too much longer.

Temple Owls

The Temple Owls have been one of the better national programs in basketball. The football team, however, very rarely go above .500 in their winning percentage. When the Big East imploded, several of the regular teams put together a new conference, called The American. Temple was extended an invitation and are a member of the AAC.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane seem to have been kicked around for several decades now. Their sports programs are decent, but for whatever reason, different conferences have chosen to treat them poorly. The major curbstomp happened when the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tried to expand too far and too quickly. The original members revolted, shunned TU and a few of the southern schools and decided to form the Mountain West. Conference USA was spawned from those ashes and now the school accepted an invitation to join the American Athletic Conference. It might take a few years for that new conference to gel, but I'm eager to see how they do against the major programs.

Cincinnati Bearcats

The Cincinnati Bearcats have an interesting football program. In some seasons, they have a hot streak and become eligible for a BCS Bowl berth and a lucrative payout. Other seasons, they fall a bit flat. Their basketball program is really strong and they make a solid run for March Madness every year. I hope these palettes help sports fans, who might be interested.

UCF Knights

Central Florida burst on the Division I landscape, as the UCF Knights continue to rise through the ranks. They began to get media attention, while competing in the Conference USA league. Once the remnants of the Big East got together, they began inviting programs to compete in a new league, called American Athletic Conference (aka "The American"). Lots of fun variations with this color palette.

Houston Cougars

The Houston Cougars have been a South Texas institution that gets limited national attention. Their football teams used to compete in the Conference USA and have been notorious, over the years, for having a high octane offense that puts a ton of points on their board. The basketball program has a rich history, as well, but has not achieved the lofty heights they reached in the 1980s and 90s. The Houston Cougars are a member of the newly created American Athletic Conference and we should see some great new rivalries spawn from this change.

Louisville Cardinals

Known as a basketball powerhouse for the last 30 years, the focus is now a split shift between the winter games and the football team. Conference realignment continues to wreak havoc as university chancellors haggle over money, television rights and BCS Bowl opportunities. Currently, the Louisville Cardinals are competing in the American Athletic Conference. I seriously doubt that the realignments will be over anytime soon.

The Louisville Cardinals uniforms are typically Red with White lettering and Black accent trim. The Yellow trim appears within the bird logo on the helmet. Another variation is a White jersey with Red lettering and Black trim. On special occasions, the team have been known to wear Black Jerseys with White lettering and Red trim, but that doesn't happen often.

Memphis Tigers

The Memphis Tigers have recently jumped from Conference USA to the newly created American Athletic Conference (The American). Actually, several schools have switched to The American and merged with remaining schools from the original Big East conference.
